AI chatbot in Telegram: 10 real tasks we gave an agent, with its replies

Published 29 October 2026 · 11 min read

On 28 October 2026 we sent a WAM agent ten ordinary requests, one message each, the way you would write to a colleague in Telegram. It rewrote a message, translated, searched the web, drew a picture, made a printable file, set a reminder and drafted an email. Below is each request, what the agent did and its reply, shortened only where it ran long.

“Ten errands, one chat”: a hand presses a large pale-blue service bell on a mustard counter, a row of small coloured bells beside it

The short answer

An AI chatbot in Telegram is useful when it finishes the job inside the chat. You write one message in plain words. The agent picks the tool it needs: web search, a file, an image, a timer. Then it sends back the result.

We tested that on 28 October 2026. Ten requests went to a WAM agent on its default model, one per message, no setup between them. Every reply came back in under two minutes. The slowest was the printable file, at 106 seconds; most took 30 to 50. If you first want the basics of how an agent lives in Telegram, start with “An AI agent in Telegram that does the work”. Here we go straight to the work.

1. Rewrite a message so it lands well

The most common job is also the smallest. You have a blunt draft, and you need it polite without losing the point. You paste it and say what tone you want.

WAM Agentonline
Rewrite this so it sounds friendly but firm, two or three sentences: "can't do thursday's call, report isn't ready, let's move to next week"19:48✓✓
«Hi, I won't be able to make Thursday's call, as the report won't be ready by then. Rather than bring you a half-finished version, I'd like to move us to early next week. Let me know what day works and I'll send the report ahead of it.»A shorter, firmer version, if they need it straight:«I need to push Thursday's call: the report isn't ready yet, and I'd rather give you the finished version than a draft. Can we look at early next week? Send me a day that works and I'll have it in your inbox before we speak.»19:49
Message

Two versions arrived in 31 seconds. The agent added the reason the other side cares about: a finished report instead of a draft.

2. Translate with the right level of formality

Translation is where a chat assistant earns its keep in a messenger. You copy a line from one chat and paste the result into another.

WAM Agentonline
Translate into Spanish and German: "Your order has shipped and should arrive on Friday. If anything is wrong, just reply to this message."19:49✓✓
In formal German, «Sollte etwas nicht stimmen» is softer than «Wenn etwas falsch ist»: the second tells the customer something is already wrong.19:50
Message

We asked for two languages and got four versions. The agent split each language into formal and informal address on its own, and explained one word choice.

3. Pull tasks and owners out of a team thread

Work chats bury decisions in banter. Paste or forward the thread and ask who owes what. Ours had seven messages from three people.

WAM Agentonline
Here is a thread from our team chat. Who owes what, and by when? Short list.Mark: landing copy is almost done, I'll send it Friday Anna: I can test the new pricing on Tuesday if someone gives me the numbers Mark: numbers are on me, Monday Sam: who's talking to the printer about the flyers? Anna: not me this week Sam: ok, I'll call them tomorrow Mark: also we still need a photo for the post, any volunteers?19:51✓✓
Open items • Mark: pricing numbers, Monday Nov 2. Everything downstream hangs on this. • Anna: pricing test, Tuesday Nov 3. Conditional on Mark: zero slack in that handoff. • Mark: landing copy, Friday Oct 30. • Sam: printer call about the flyers, tomorrow.Nobody owns The photo for the post. Mark asked for a volunteer and the thread ends there.Want me to draft the two messages: assigning the photo and setting Mark's deadline at Monday morning?19:51
Message

The useful part is the last block. The agent turned relative days into dates and spotted the one task with no owner. It also saw that Anna's test depends on Mark's numbers. In a group the same request works with a mention: the agent hears only messages addressed to it when /mention on is set.

A model on its own knows what it saw in training. For anything current the agent runs a web search, which costs 1.5 magnets. We asked about something that changes often and is easy to check.

WAM Agentonline
What is the latest stable Python release right now, when did it come out, and what are the two or three biggest changes? Give me the source link.19:52✓✓
Python 3.15: stable since 9 October 2026. The latest download today is patch 3.15.2, out 25 October 2026.The three that matter • Lazy imports (PEP 810). Imports can be deferred explicitly, so CLI tools and services stop paying for modules they never touch at startup. • UTF-8 as the default encoding (PEP 686). It fixes a decade of mojibake, and it is also the change most likely to break something. Worth a grep for explicit encoding= before upgrading. • frozendict and sentinel as builtins (PEP 814, PEP 661).Source Release notes: python.org/downloads/release/python-3152 What's new in 3.15: docs.python.org/3/whatsnew/3.15.html19:53
Message

We checked the answer against python.org the same afternoon. The version and both dates matched, and all four PEPs appear in the official “What’s new” page. The reply took 39 seconds.

5. Draw a picture for a post

Pictures come from the same chat. On the default model one image costs 20 magnets. We asked for a simple post illustration.

WAM Agentonline
Draw a square picture for a post about home coffee: a moka pot on a sunny kitchen windowsill, flat illustration, warm colours, no text.19:54✓✓
Square, 1:1, flat illustration: moka pot, morning light, no text. Roomy at the top if you want a headline laid over it.19:55
Message
A flat illustration of a moka pot, a cup and a potted plant on a sunny windowsill
The picture the agent sent with that reply, 1024 × 1024

It arrived 52 seconds after the request. The agent also left room at the top for a headline, which we never asked for. More prompts and the pictures they made are in “An AI image generator inside your chat: six prompts and the pictures they made”.

6. Make a file you can print

Some answers belong in a file. Ask for a file and the agent builds one and sends it to the chat as a document.

WAM Agentonline
Make me a packing checklist for a 3-day work trip with one evening dinner, as a file I can print. Group it by bag.19:56✓✓
docxPacking_Checklist_3_Day_Work_Trip.docx1 page · 38 KBPrintable checklist: one page, tick boxes, three bags: personal item, carry-on, day bag. Plus a before-you-leave block and space to write what you forgot. Two assumptions: two nights, no laundry, so clothes are counted for the exact days; and the dinner set is packed as one bundle so it comes out in one go instead of five separate searches.19:58
Message

This was the longest task, 106 seconds. The Word file opens with a header line, “3-day work trip · 2 nights · one evening dinner”. Then come three sections with tick boxes, and the dinner outfit, shoes and accessories form one group. The same works the other way round: forward a PDF and ask questions about it, as in “Twelve things to ask an AI about a PDF”.

7. Set a reminder in plain words

Reminders are the clearest difference from a chat window you have to open. The agent writes first, at the time you set.

WAM Agentonline
Remind me in 2 minutes to stand up and stretch.19:58✓✓
Set. I'll ping you at 20:00 to stand up and stretch.19:58
Time to stand up and stretch: two minutes away from the screen, shoulders and hips.20:00
Message

It converted “in 2 minutes” into a clock time in our time zone and arrived on schedule. One-off reminders like this work on Free. On Pro the agent also repeats a reminder on schedule, such as every Monday at 9.

8. Draft an email

The agent writes mail the way you would after a coffee. We asked only for the text and sent nothing.

WAM Agentonline
Draft a short email to my landlord: the kitchen tap has been leaking since Monday, ask when a plumber can come. Polite, no drama. Just give me the text, I'll send it myself.20:01✓✓
Subject: Kitchen tap leak, plumber visitHi [landlord's name],The kitchen tap has been leaking since Monday. Nothing dramatic, but it's getting worse slowly and I'd rather have it seen to before it turns into something bigger.Could you let me know when a plumber can come round? Just tell me the day and I'll make sure someone is in to let him in.Thanks, [your name]If it's dripping steadily rather than an occasional drip, add a half-line saying you've put a bowl under it: landlords move faster on damage than on inconvenience.20:01
Message

Connect Gmail with one link in the chat and the same request ends with “send it”. The agent then sends from your mailbox and can sort the inbox first. How that access works without your password is covered in “Is an AI agent safe? 8 things to check before you let one into your chats”.

9. Split a shared bill

Three people and three receipts is a job for the agent: it does the sums in one message. Ask for the fewest transfers.

WAM Agentonline
Three of us split a weekend trip. I paid €240 for the flat, Max paid €96 for food, Ana paid €60 for fuel. Who sends whom how much so we're even? Fewest transfers.20:01✓✓
Total €396, so €132 each.Max sends you €36, Ana sends you €72. That settles it in two transfers, and two is the minimum: you're the only one who overpaid, so everyone else pays you directly.20:02
Message

The sums are right: 240 + 96 + 60 = 396, a third is 132. Reply time: 28 seconds.

The last request combined two jobs: read a page and plan an evening with it. We sent the Wikipedia article on the Pomodoro Technique.

WAM Agentonline
Read this page and explain the method in three lines, then plan me a 2-hour study block with it starting at 19:00: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomodoro_Technique20:02✓✓
1. Write down what you're working on, set a timer for 25 minutes, and work only on that. If something interrupts you, note it for later or start a new pomodoro. 2. Take 5–10 minutes off, then repeat. After four pomodori, take a long break of 20–30 minutes. 3. The method is the list: tasks in priority order, every finished pomodoro ticked, the day reviewed at the end.Your block: 19:00 has already gone by today, so this is tomorrow, Thursday 29 October.19:00–19:02 pick one task, close everything else 19:02–19:25 pomodoro 1 19:25–19:30 break 19:30–19:55 pomodoro 2 19:55–20:00 break 20:00–20:25 pomodoro 3 20:25–20:30 break 20:30–20:55 pomodoro 4 20:55–21:00 tick what got done, write the first task for next timeWant me to set a reminder for 18:55 tomorrow?20:03
Message

Note the line about the time. Our message arrived after 19:00, so the agent moved the block to the next day and named the date. Then it offered the reminder that closes the loop.

How this differs from a regular Telegram bot

A typical Telegram bot does one job through a menu. A currency bot converts currencies. A support bot routes you through buttons to an operator. They are fast and predictable at that one job.

An AI agent works from the task itself. The ten requests above went to one contact, in one chat, with no commands. The agent decided where it needed search, a file, a picture or a timer. It also remembers you between chats: your projects, your tone, the people you work with. Memory is edited in plain words, “remember” and “forget”. The terms behind all this, from context window to MCP, are in “AI agent in Telegram: 18 terms in plain English”.

Each WAM agent is a separate Telegram bot with the name and avatar you choose. It starts in Telegram, and other messengers can be connected.

What to know before you start

For an important fact, open the sources the agent attaches. Our search reply came with links, so a look at the source took two minutes.

Try the same ten requests

Open @wamagentsbot, hit Start and name your agent. Creating it takes about a minute. Then paste any request from this page as it is written. The first one usually tells you which of the ten you will use daily.

Try it with your own agent

Free, no card. The agent starts working in the chat straight away.

Questions

What can an AI bot in Telegram actually do?

A WAM agent rewrites and translates text, searches the web with sources, reads links, PDFs, photos and voice notes, draws pictures, makes files such as a printable .docx, sets reminders and drafts emails. With Gmail connected, it reads and sends mail for you.

Is the Telegram AI bot free?

You start on Free: 200 magnets of work in your first month, then 100 a month, no card. A web search costs 1.5 magnets and a picture on the default model 20. Pro is $13.90 a month with 400 magnets.

How is an AI agent different from a regular Telegram bot?

A regular bot runs a fixed menu of commands and buttons. An AI agent takes a task in your own words and chooses the tools itself: search, files, images, reminders, mail.

Can the agent send emails for me?

Yes, after you connect Gmail with one link inside the chat. Before that, it writes a ready draft for you to send. In our test we asked only for the draft.

Does the agent work in group chats?

Yes. Add it to a group and, with /mention on, it answers only when someone mentions it or replies to it. Forum topics each keep their own memory.
